Kateeve announces massive layoffs

This is sad news - and surprising as well as Kateeva seems to be on the forefront of OLED inkjet printing. Kateeve raised over $125 million (including $88 million in 2016) and is working with Samsung, BOE, LG, Johua Printing and other companies. The company is leading with ink-jet printing of OLED encapsulation materials and was set to supply Samsung with the QD printing equipment for SDC's upcoming QD-OLED TV line.

Samsung Q950TS, Q900T & Q800T 8K QLED TV Officially Launched for 2020

Samsung has unveiled its full 8K TV lineup at the company's annual European Forum in Malta. The range-topper is the gorgeous Samsung Q950TS with "Infinity Screen" design. The step-down model is the Samsung Q900T that lacks the One Connect Box; while the entry-level model will be the Samsung Q800T.

Key features include full-array local dimming (FALD) direct-lit LED backlighting, QLED quantum dot colours with 100% DCI-P3 colour volume, Anti Reflection screen, as well as Object Tracking Sound Plus (OTS+) and Q-Symphony audio technologies.

HDMI 2.1 features supported include 4K@120Hz (8-bit 4:2:0), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and enhanced ARC (eARC).

This video was filmed and uploaded in HLG HDR, so please watch on a compatible HDR display for the best experience.

Samsung Talks 2020 TV Lineup, Q90R eARC Update, & Why They Don't Support Dolby Vision

We interviewed Craig Cunningham, senior product strategy manager for Samsung Europe, talking about the South Korean brand's 2020 TV lineup (including 8K & 4K QLED), eARC firmware update for last year's Q90R television, lack of Dolby Vision support, as well as other lifestyle displays (The Frame, Serif & Sero).

Samsung Unveil Q95T, Q90T, Q80T, Q70T & Q60T 4K QLED TV for 2020

At the Samsung European Forum in Malta, the South Korean brand also announced its 4K QLED TV lineup. The top model is the Samsung Q95T which is very similar to last year's Q85R in terms of the number of local dimming zones and provision of One Connect Box as well as Anti Reflection Screen. US model number may be different, likely Q90T.

The European step-down model is the Samsung Q90T which lacks the One Connect Box. Specs-wise, it's similar to 2019's Q80R, featuring full-array local dimming (FALD) direct-lit LED LCD backlighting, Anti Reflection Screen, and a central stand.

The Samsung Q80T is the successor to last year's Q70R, with FALD but no Anti Reflection Screen. The Q70T and Q60T are both edge-lit LED LCDs with "Dual LED" technology to improve contrast & viewing angles.

Samsung's 2020 4K TVs will have HDMI 2.0b inputs with certain HDMI 2.1 features supported, such as VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel). To get 4K@120fps support, you will have to step up to the 8K range such as the Q800T, Q900T or Q950T.

Panasonic HZ1500, HZ1000 and HZ2000 4K OLED TVs | Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos, Filmmaker Mode

Panasonic has unveiled its new range of 4K OLED TVs for the coming year which includes the flagship HZ2000 and HZ1500 models featuring upward-firing Dolby Atmos speakers, plus the HZ1000. The new OLED TVs also feature Filmmaker Mode with Intelligent Sensing and Dolby Vision IQ. We interview Sebastian Wegielshi from Panasonic and Javier Foncillas from Dolby.

New features introduced to the OLED range include support for both Dolby Vision IQ and the inclusion of Filmmaker Mode with Intelligent Sensing - Panasonic’s unique approach to the UHD Alliance’s new movie picture setting.

The OLED TVs also see the upward-firing speakers, previously only found at the top of the GZ range last year, now move down a model so that the HZ1500, as well as the HZ2000, features the immersive speaker array.

Panasonic was also the first manufacturer to provide support for both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ dynamic metadata HDR formats on the same TV, something it has continued with all the newly announced new television sets. They are also compatible with the HLG HDR format mainly used by broadcasters and the HLG Photo HDR format. In other words, all the common flavours of HDR are covered.

Dolby Atmos is also supported throughout Panasonic’s 2020 OLED range and the latest iteration of Panasonic’s simple and user-friendly smart TV OS, Home Screen 5.0 will be implemented too. There is no support for full bandwidth 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 via any of the HDMI inputs, but there is support for ALLM and eARC.

All the OLED’s for 2020 are available in 55-and 65-inch screen options and all feature the HCX PRO Intelligent processor, which combines with picture tuning by Hollywood specialists to deliver as accurate an image as possible. The top of the range HZ2000 will be officially available in July and features a bespoke Master HDR OLED Professional Edition panel exclusively customised by Panasonic R&D engineers for improved peak brightness. The HZ1500 will be out in May or June while the HZ1000 is out of the gate first in April/May for those who are most eager.Panasonic has unveiled its new range of 4K OLED TVs for the coming year which includes the flagship HZ2000 and HZ1500 models featuring upward-firing Dolby Atmos speakers, plus the HZ1000.
