Let me explain how the LG C9 came so close to the Panasonic GZ2000 in term of the tone mapping.
Obviously in my opinion the GZ2000 has the best 1000 nits and 4000 nits tone mapping in terms of balancing between the specular highlights details and also the overall brightness but for the LG C9 we actually utilized the tone curve adjustement feature that has been developed by LG Electronics in conjunction with Portrait Displays in Calman and we set the tone curve in terms of the value for 1000 nits and 4000 nits and 10000 nits separately to achieve this sort of effect that made it come so close to the reference broadcast monitor and push the Panasonic GZ2000.
Obviously these tone curves values were entirely different from the default tone curves values and the default tone curves values would actually blow up the detail even more so I mean obviously this is my secret sauce, this is our secret sauce and I think, you know, if you hire me for calibrating your C9, I'll be utilizing this tone curve to make sure that you get the best, say, balance of specular highlight detail and overall brightness and I want to stress that I turned off dynamic tone mapping for the LG C9 entirely because I think dynamic tone mapping, although it produces a pleasing result generally, it is actually manipulating the tone curve and when you are referencing it to a reference broadcast monitor it will produce a picture that is either too dark or too bright.
